Title: Parliamentary Communication Officer

Location: Parliament, Cape Town

Type of Employment: Five-year fixed-term contract

Salary: Market-related based on qualifications and experience

About the Role:

RISE Mzansi is looking for a self-motivated and politically astute Parliamentary

Communication Officer to support its Parliamentary Caucus. This role is crucial in

ensuring effective communication between our Members of Parliament and the

media, as well as stakeholders. The ideal candidate should possess strong

communication skills, an active understanding of the political and legislative landscape.

Objectives:

Provide comprehensive media and ad hoc research support to the RISE Mzansi

Parliamentary Caucus through the production of written communication and

media products, which align with RISE Mzansi’

s policies and legislative agenda.

Qualifications:

A qualification in Communication, Political Science, Journalism, Public Policy, or a

related field will be advantageous.

Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive media support to the RISE Mzansi Parliamentary Caucus

including coordinating with parliamentary representatives to ensure accurate and

timely information dissemination.

Develop and implement communication strategies to promote RISE Mzansi

parliamentary and organisational activities through proactive and reactive

identification of issues that add strategic value to the work of RISE Mzansi.Determining RISE Mzansi’

s position on issues and subsequently drafting media

releases, speeches, opinion pieces and related content to effectively convey RISE

Mzansi’

s message.

Develop, curate, and manage relevant content across all social media platforms to

effectively convey the positions of RISE Parliamentary Caucus.

Plan and manage media briefings and events.

Monitor media coverage and public sentiment related to parliamentary and

organisational activities.

Develop media databases and broadcast lists and maintain and strengthen

relationships with media outlets and members of the media.

The successful candidate may be required to travel to support organisational

activities and oversight inspections.

Skills Required:

Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Additional

languages will be a significant advantage.

Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media platforms.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

A track record of active volunteerism and community engagement will be an

advantage.
