RISE Mzansi takes this moment to congratulate National Chairperson, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, on officially taking the reins as the Gauteng Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture, Rural Development and Agrarian Reform.

Presided over by Judge Lebogang Modiba, MEC Ramokgopa took her oath of office this morning, where she committed to the 16-million people of Gauteng that she will “be faithful to the Republic of South Africa and will obey, respect and uphold the Constitution and all other law of the Republic;” and “perform the functions of my office conscientiously and to the best of my ability.”

The people of Gauteng now have a new leader at the highest level of decision-making in the province, who will work with the Premier, MECs, as well as Local and National spheres of Government to end hunger, ensure access to sufficient food and reform food systems.

To achieve this, MEC Ramokgopa will prioritise reducing food waste and ensuring sustainable, localised production of food; as well as focusing on growing the base of small scale farmers and support the urban farming economy in Gauteng.

Over the coming days, MEC Ramokgopa will, through the appropriate channels, communicate detailed plans for the Department, as well as meet with sectoral stakeholders. As per the People’s Contract, MEC Ramokgopa, as a representative of the people be, among other things, accessible, accountable, busy, and co-operative.

Today, RISE Mzansi is in a greater position to build a safe, prosperous, equal and united Gauteng and South Africa.

On behalf of RISE Mzansi, I wish RISE Mzansi National Chairperson and MEC, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, well as she embarks on ending hunger in Gauteng.
