On 13 March, RISE Mzansi witnessed the dire conditions facing Boitumelo, Sebokeng residents, abandoned by outgoing Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the government. Sewage floods their homes, jeopardizing health and daily life, despite unfulfilled promises of support. Houses built post-apartheid sit on a wetland, highlighting ANC's planning failures.
Families like the Modupe and Shongwe have fled due to unlivable conditions, ignored by indifferent municipal and provincial authorities. Emfuleni suffers from crumbling infrastructure, neglected sewage pipes, and mismanaged finances, wasting R1-billion annually. In 2018, David Makhura took over Emfuleni, yet years later, no progress has been made. Under Lesufi's Gauteng rule, despair grows, with no relief in sight.
RISE Mzansi demands action, proposing to take over non-performing municipalities, ensuring basic standards and quality services. Their vision includes water, sanitation, and internet for all, crucial for education and health services. Residents deserve leadership that prioritizes their well-being and prosperity.
