Months into the academic year, NSFAS continues to leave students in despair, a cycle dishearteningly familiar to RISE Mzansi Youth and Student Chapters. This week, students from Sedibeng TVET College, Heidelberg Campus, protested for their right to food and education. Ntando Mcubane and Lesley Maqabe reported that while some could view their NSFAS allowances in the Tenet App, they couldn't withdraw funds, and others couldn't access their apps or funds at all.

As Freedom Day approaches, RISE Mzansi Youth and Student Chapters recognizes that NSFAS is infringing upon students' right to food. The dissolution of the NSFAS board and removal of Ernest Khosa, the former chairperson, haven't ended students' plight. RISE Mzansi will join Sedibeng TVET College students in a protest on April 26, 2024. We urgently need new leaders to end campus hunger and malnutrition.
